This article explains how to install 2 Octopus installations on the same computer. This procedure is necessary if the same PC will be used to access two distinct Octopus environments.
There are two cases where this could be useful:- The have both a production and a test environment on the same PC.
- To access the Octopus environment of two different companies (your environment and the environment of one of your client that also use Octopus).
Each Octopus environment has its own installation URL. The installation URL is provided to you when the environment is created. Contact us if you don't know what your installation URLs are. Before you start ensure you have the installation URL for each environment.
Here are the steps if you have nothing installed:- Install Octopus normally from the first installation URL*
- Follow the procedure below.
Here are the steps if you already have one environment installed:- Close the Octopus application
- Rename c:\program files\Octopus to a new name (example: c:\program files\Octopus-production)
- Modify your Octopus desktop shortcut to run from the new folder name
- Test the shortcut and fix it if necessary.
- Install the 2nd Octopus normally from that 2nd environment's the installation URL*
- Rename c:\program files\Octopus to a new name (example: c:\program files\Octopus-test)
- Modify your Octopus desktop shortcut to run from the new folder name
- Test the shortcut and fix it if necessary.
