IMPORTANT: Note that Octopus will soon require that .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 be installed on the technicians' PCs. We recommend you install .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 now. This package is available as an optional download on http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
Below are the most important new features of version 2.9.
The complete list of changes is available at
Version history.
EditNew solution to schedule changes
We've replaced the existing "Preventive Maintenance" feature by schedule jobs that you can use to automate the creation of changes. This new mechanism is more open and more flexible than the former.
The former feature is still available to customers who've enabled it. We'll contact you soon to discuss and plan the transition to this new feature.
The scheduled jobs feature is used to program the creation of new changes based on a schedule. For example, you can create a scheduled job that will automatically create a new
change of type "UPS battery replacement" every year for every UPS you own.
To start using scheduled jobs:
- Create a "Change Template". To do so, go to "Tool>Reference Data Management" and expand the "Changes" node and then expand the "Templates" node. From there, add a new Change Template (for instance: "UPS battery replacement").
- Next, go to "Tools > Scheduled Jobs" and add a new job for the new Change template.

This version only supports automating the creation of changes. In an upcoming version, it will also be possible to schedule Service Requests and Tasks.
EditNon-blocking incident/SR creation window
The incident/SR creation window is now non-blocking. This means that you can now create more than one incident at the same time using multiple incident creation windows. You can also perform searches or go and see other data while you are creating an incident, without having to close the incident.
We'd like to know what you think of this change. Do you like the result? Would you like all windows to be non-blocking (create CI, create Employee, create Change)? Let us know by sending us your comments at support@octopus-itsm.com.EditNew feature to duplicate a CI
A new action called "Duplicate" allows you to rapidly create a CI from another one. This is very useful to create CIs in batch (when you receive an order). Create the first CI with all the information and then duplicate it as many times as needed and just change the CI's Name each time.

EditNew feature to renew a contract
A new action called "contract renewal" allows you to renew a contract on a single click. Open a contract that you wish to renew. Click the "Renew" action to create a new copy of the same contract and simply change the start and end dates.

Edit Default view: "My incidents" or "My tasks"
You can now choose the default view that is shown when Octopus opens. You can choose between "My incidents" or "My tasks". To change the default view, go to "File > Modify my profile", click the "Octopus Account" Tab and change the "Defaut view" field.
EditFind CIs by searching configuration attributes
The CI advanced search feature can now search in the CIs' configuration attributes. For example, you can search for "2 Duo" to find all PCs with an "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo" CPU.

EditMultiple Service Desks support
If you have Services Desks in multiple cities, Octopus can now automatically route the incoming requests to the right group.

This new version will offer:
- Tasks in Service Requests
- Authorization workflow for Changes and Service Requests
